I am accredited with the Association of Cognitive Analytic Therapy as a CAT Psychotherapist and Supervisor.
The key principles of CAT are collaboration, reciprocity, working in a time-limited way and creatively exploring what happens in relationships.
CAT focusses on recognising familiar ways of being which we have come to accept as part of our identity but which also may no longer serve us in all contexts. A defining feature of CAT is the emphasis on identifying roles which keep occuring in relationships with other people, as well as creating space to explore the nature of the relationship we have we ourself too.
My approach brings awareness to why we repeat familiar stories in our relationships today, following the echos from our childhood and we identify links from the past with the present.
With a Cognitive Analytic approach we can find ways to tangibly represent usual yet self-limiting relationship patterns with a view to navigating towards 'exits' from repetitive cycles of behaviour and not-so-helpful role replications. In the therapy we identify early on the areas you would like to focus and work towards a process of 'reformulating' with a view to creating space to explore what else may be possible if we change our usual responses and reactions. Personal growth is usually supported by therapy letters, maps and bespoke, ad hoc monitoring work.
Hello,
I am here offering a therapeutic space to help us to become more aware of ourselves and the impact we have on others.
I appreciate how each of us carry our own versions of reality and develop unique adaptations to survive in this world.
Though no one can predict the future, I believe therapy can help us develop a deeper capacity to reflect and engage with our emotional bodies so we can navigate differently as we enter the unknowns along our life path.
Like all UKCP registered psychotherapists and psychotherapeutic counsellors I can work with a wide range of issues, but here are some areas in which I have a special interest or additional experience.
