Therapy sessions are a confidential space for you to put words to your thoughts, feelings, difficulties and strengths, enabling us to explore together underlying issues and barriers to positive change.
The psychodynamic and group analytic understanding recognises that that from early life onwards, our key relationships and experiences help us develop relational patterns that we tend to continue into adult life. While some of those patterns may have worked for a time, they may not serve us so well in later life. Thus, reflecting on relational experiences in the therapy situation, as well as in the world outside, can be instrumental in revealing unhelpful patterns, and enable potentially liberating changes.
Throughout my career, I have worked to promote others’ mental and physical health and wellbeing in various contexts. Initially qualifying as a hospital physician and a GP, I later moved on to work in psychiatry and have a special interest in perinatal psychiatry (i.e. supporting pregnant and postnatal mothers and babies, as well as those planning pregnancy).
Alongside my medical practice, I later embarked upon a long-term in-depth training as a group analyst and psychodynamic therapist, involving many years of individual and group therapy myself, and extensive experience working with groups and individuals, both with NHS patients and for also charity working in schools with vulnerable young people. I offer private therapy to individuals, both online and face to face.
Like all UKCP registered psychotherapists and psychotherapeutic counsellors I can work with a wide range of issues, but here are some areas in which I have a special interest or additional experience.
