My Approach

I am both kind and direct. You can expect me to appreciate the differences between people and facilitate non-judgemental conversations that don’t involve blame. Our work can be flexible and can include different types of exploration – we can work with words, our bodies, creative activities – and I draw on a range of training and experience in my practice to support you in building on your existing resources to move forward. Sometimes this means spending time looking at transgenerational family patterns, the influence of culture, our relationship to our identities and our difficult emotions.

I have completed additional training in trauma therapies (Narrative Exposure Therapy, Children Accelerated Trauma Technique, Dialectical Behavioural Therapy) and attachment therapy (Emotionally Focussed Therapy for Couples). My practice the past decade has been predominantly within adult and children’s NHS mental health services as well as in Social Care services. I am confident and familiar in working with risk, enduring mental health challenges and navigating complex systems of care.

About Me

Hi - I'm Caroleen.

I work online with couples and families who want to make changes to their relationships in one way or another. Sometimes this means wanting to disrupt repetitive and tiring relational patterns, finding common ground across differences, managing change and transitions or finding more joy in relationships.

I think we all need relationships and love, and I think relationships can be painful too. I am particularly interested in relationship therapy because I am interested in living in a world where we can get by together and have more compassion for one another. My work over the past decade has been mostly with survivors of violence, be it interpersonal (e.g. control, sexual violence, abuse) or societal (e.g. racism, sexism, queerphobia) and I am passionate about challenging oppressive systems that influence all of us differently.

I have an expansive understanding of what a family is and this includes friendships, community, polyamorous relationships, siblings, step-families and pets. It is up to you to decide who your family is.
