My Approach

I Practice a Person Centred, and Integrative, Humanistic approach to Counselling. This largely means I am respectful, honest, and empathic. I do not make asumptions or judgments, and only make inteventions with clients if I think this will be of absolute benefit to them .
My basic philosophy in my approach to counselling is that all clients who chose to come into counselling are the expert on their own lives, and given the opportunity to feel heard, and understood will make sense of their own issues.

About Me

After practicing as a Registered Midwife for almost thirty years and later, becoming involved in Public Health, and the teaching Doctors and Midwives with appropriate ways of communicating, and making healthy interventions with pregnant women and their families, I became more interested in learning more about effective communication and therapeutic relationships. I went on to complete a three year Diploma in Therapeutic Counselling with The Northern Guild for Psychothery in 2010, and 2 years later completed a Post Graduate Diploma in Integrative Psychotherapy. I have been practicing as a Psychotherapeutic Counsellor both in Private Practice, and in the NHS Primary Care Services, for the last 10 years. I am committed to building effective therapeutic relationships with clients who wish to enter Counselling, with a wide range of issues .

I work with

  • Individuals
  • Private healthcare referrals

Special Interests

Like all UKCP registered psychotherapists and psychotherapeutic counsellors I can work with a wide range of issues, but here are some areas in which I have a special interest or additional experience.

Most of my experience falls in to this area of practice, with increased awareness and empathy, due to my own lived experience of this 20 years ago.
Again much of my Professional experience is linked with grief and loss, and as a mature adult I have considerable lived experience of this also
I have worked in Private Practice for 10 yrs, and have a therapy room within an old converted Methodist Chapel, for face to face work, and work over the telephone and online, according to client need and choice.
Since the inception of the Pandemic it became essential for me to learn how to work effectively with clients over the telephone, and now many clients prefer to work with me in this way
