My Approach

I offer individual psychotherapy and clinical supervision in the South East London area. I worked for eighteen years in the NHS mental health services as a specialist psychotherapist, as well as having my own private psychotherapy practice. This has involved working with people with a wide range of diagnoses and difficulties. These include, but not exclusively:

Anxiety; depression; self-harm; suicidal ideation; personality disorder, questions around sexuality and identity; relationship difficulties.

I welcome diversity in my practice. Therapy is an invitation to explore through dialogue the uniqueness of your world, through your language, at your pace.

I avoid imposing my own assumptions or reaching for an off-the-shelf solution to your difficulties. This means that changes that occur will make sense to you, and will be sustainable. It is not easy to say in advance how long this process will take but I am happy to work both short-term and longer-term with people.

About Me

I offer psychoanalytic psychotherapy as it offers time and space to explore whatever is bringing you to seek therapy, and to understand it in the context of your whole life. I trained in psychoanalysis and use those principles to inform my therapeutic approach. I originally did a Masters Degree in Integrative Counselling at Greenwich University which introduced me to psychoanalytic theories and ideas. I went on to train for four years as a psychoanalyst at The Site for Contemporary Psychoanalysis where I then served on the governing council and am currently involved in their London psychotherapy training.

I have supervised trainee clinical psychologists, psychiatrists in training and trainee counsellors and psychotherapists, both privately and in the NHS. I have taught at the Site, and and at Goldsmiths, the University of Greenwich and Salomons, the clinical psychology training at Canterbury Christ Church University. I have worked with groups, both as a therapist and as a facilitator.

I work with

  • Groups
  • Individuals
  • Private healthcare referrals

Special Interests

Like all UKCP registered psychotherapists and psychotherapeutic counsellors I can work with a wide range of issues, but here are some areas in which I have a special interest or additional experience.

I am interested in how a diagnosis of autism is often missed particularly in adult women. There is no size fits all in psychotherapy and I recognise the importance of considering neuro-diversity in my approach to therapy.
I was employed in the NHS for eighteen years as a psychotherapist in specialist counselling and psychotherapy mental health services. I worked with people with a wide range of mental health difficulties such as anxiety, depression, self-harm, suicidal thoughts, eating disorders, and personality disorder. This was with adults, including young adults.
I offer supervision and have supervised counselling and clinical psychology students, psychiatry trainees, and trainees in psychoanalytic training. I supervise individual and groups.
I teach at the Site for Contemporary Psychoanalysis and am currently a member of its Training Committee. I have taught student clinical psychologists and trainee counsellors at, variously, the University of Greenwich, Goldsmiths’ University, and Canterbury Christchurch University, lecturing in psychodynamic counselling and facilitating reflective practice groups.
Much of my work has been with people who have experienced complex early childhood trauma, and how this has impacted on them, both psychologically and physically, including their relationship to their body. Trust is crucial in any therapy relationship but particularly when there is a background of trauma. We go at your pace.
