Awareness is the primary aim of Gestalt therapy. My one-to-one therapy is relational and holistic and based on mindful focusing on moment to moment experience. I am interested in who you are as an embodied being who is unique and evolving; in how your culture, attachment patterns and experiences have impacted your behaviour and feelings in the present. I aim to provide a supportive, safe environment where you can gain a fuller, braver curiosity about the whole of who you are. I can support you to feel much freer to choose your way forward and replace the patterns and behaviours of the past with new healthier ways of being in the present, locate the fears and hurts that underline experiences like anxiety and depression and allow you to be more fully 'yourself'. I work experimentally with writing, visualisation, movement, breathing and vocal techniques, art practice and dialogue (sometimes while walking outside) to achieve this.
I am a qualified Gestalt psychotherapist and counsellor (UKCP/BACP) with a background in the arts. I gained a Phd in the humanities before training as a therapist. I use art, somatic (body process) based mindfulness and breath focussed approaches in my daily life and work. I have a diagnosis of ADHD and Dyslexia and thus a specialist interest in neurodiversity (or what I prefer to call diverse processing) and its impact on individuals and their loved ones. I aim to always be respectful of and interested in your unique identification and way of seeing and being in the world. My practice is neuro-diversity (neuroaffirming) and LGBTQ+ affirming and trauma informed.
I work in Wallingford South Oxfordshire, offering short and long term therapy, both online and face to face. I also regularly use outdoor walk-and-talk approaches.
Like all UKCP registered psychotherapists and psychotherapeutic counsellors I can work with a wide range of issues, but here are some areas in which I have a special interest or additional experience.
