I'm a therapist in Shoreditch, Hackney and I work with people who lose themselves, who cannot show up fully.
Perhaps in relationships, you bite your tongue or withdraw, and struggle to advocate for yourself. You might people-please, and find yourself going out of your way to avoid other's disappointment. You might be so good at this that you don't even recognise that you're doing it.
Or at work, perhaps if your boss you're trying to keep happy. You cannot say no, or take on too much, sometimes without even being asked. Now, you're stressed,
anxious and burnt out.
Perhaps there is a habit you can't kick. You can hold it together for your job, or the people you love, but when you're alone, or bored, the urges start and you cannot stop.
Or, perhaps there's part of you that cannot show up because you learned to hide it. You might have grown up queer so being who you are, and publicly, was not safe. Or maybe something happened that shouldn't. And you didn't have the words to describe it, or perhaps had no one to listen.
At first, it might seem quite straight-forward. You will mostly talk, and I will mostly listen. I might ask questions, i might share how I'm feeling. This is the experience of being listened to, deeply listened it. You might realise that you have never experienced it before.
Over time, this experience will hopefully create a feeling of safety. Both consciously and beneath consciousness, you will feel safer as our time together goes on.
This allows our work to deepen. You can share more, and together we might begin to understand the person that you are in ways that might surprise you.
