I trained as a Gestalt psychotherapist. It gave me a solid foundation, a relational approach that I have developed over the years, especially with mentalization theory.
Our problems aren't easily put into boxes like anxiety, depression, relationship problems, loss, trauma, abuse, shame and so on. We and life are more messy. My endeavour is to try to see your experience of the world and hold that big picture in mind and find a focus with you, something you would like to work on in the time that we have.
I am an accredited psychotherapist and supervisor in the UK, with 28 years of experience, some in private practice but mostly many years of working in a counselling team at a university. I think I have seen a lot of life. I have travelled from London to Bangkok by car. Driven across China. Worked in Brunei and Thailand. I've worked as a dustman, woodworker, landscape gardener, bookseller, then chartered surveyor, part trained as speech and language therapist and then psychotherapist. It's given me many ways to see the world and to connect to others.
I am very active. I like cycling, running and being outside with my dog. I love reading and nature. I am based in South Manchester and will be developing my practice to incorporate 'walking therapy' if you are interested in that.
Like all UKCP registered psychotherapists and psychotherapeutic counsellors I can work with a wide range of issues, but here are some areas in which I have a special interest or additional experience.
