My Approach

As a systemic psychotherapist, I explore difficulties in the context of relationships, life experiences and the wider circumstances that shape us. We can look at how patterns have developed, what they mean to you and what you might want to change. You do not need to arrive with a diagnosis or a clearly defined problem.

I work collaboratively, making space for different perspectives without assuming that everyone experiences a situation in the same way. Sessions are shaped around the people involved and what feels useful to them.
Conversation is central to my work. Where appropriate, I may also offer creative and experiential ways to explore an experience, including visual or written exercises, timelines, objects, movement, guided meditation, sound and body-based practices. There is no expectation to use these approaches; we can decide together what feels right for you.

If you are considering therapy, I invite you to book a complimentary consultation by telephone or online. You can tell me a little about what has brought you here, ask any questions and get a feel for how we might work together. I offer packages, programmes and standalone sessions we can explore what would suit you.

About Me

I am Amma, a qualified Systemic and Family Psychotherapist, trained yoga teacher and sound therapist. I work with individuals, couples, families, children and young people, and wider relationship networks as well as businesses and organisations.
My experience spans the NHS, local authorities and the voluntary sector. I have supported people through relationship difficulties, family change, trauma, loss and life transitions, as well as those who want space to understand themselves and their relationships more deeply.
I welcome people from a wide range of backgrounds, identities and family structures. Whatever brings you to therapy, I aim to offer a space where you can feel heard, explore what matters to you and consider new ways forward.

Special Interests

Like all UKCP registered psychotherapists and psychotherapeutic counsellors I can work with a wide range of issues, but here are some areas in which I have a special interest or additional experience.

There is no single way to be in your twenties, thirties or any decade that follows. Each stage can bring changes in your body, relationships, responsibilities and sense of identity. Sometimes these changes feel welcome; sometimes they arrive before you feel ready, or leave you wondering whether the life you have still fits. I offer space to explore the physical, mental and emotional experience of ageing, including changes in health, appearance, confidence and how others see you. We can also talk openly about cosmetic procedures or surgery: what they mean to you, what you hope might change, and the feelings or relationships surrounding those decisions. You do not have to justify your choices or have already made up your mind.
Couples are small families. Even when there are only two people in the room, each brings a history, ways of showing care, love, togetherness, expectations about partnership and ideas about how difficulties should be handled. Over time, a couple also develops its own habits. Some help the relationship feel secure; others can leave both people feeling unheard. You may be caught in the same argument, living alongside one another but feeling far apart, or facing a change that has unsettled what once worked. I help couples slow these moments down and understand what is happening beneath them. There is room for both partners’ experiences, including the things that have been hard to say, and for thinking together about the relationship you want now.
Family difficulties rarely belong to just one person. A conflict may have a long history; an estrangement may involve love, anger and grief at the same time. Changes such as separation, a new partnership, children growing up or caring for an older relative can alter everyone’s place in the family. I work with families who want to understand what has happened between them and find a way to speak and listen differently. That might mean addressing conflict or estrangement, finding your footing after change, or building a stronger sense of who you are together. We can make room for each person’s perspective while looking for the strengths and connections that can help the family move forward.
Race and racism can enter the most personal parts of life: how safe we feel, how we see ourselves, what happens in our relationships and what we are able to say aloud. I work with people who have experienced racism, whether in a single incident or through experiences that have accumulated over time. There is space to explore its impact without having to minimise, explain away or organise your feelings for someone else’s comfort. I also work with people who exact racist acts, in person or online, and with people troubled by their racist thoughts and thinking. These can be difficult things to bring into a therapy room. I offer a space where they can be spoken about directly, with care and accountability, so that we can understand what is happening and what needs to change. My aim is to hold difficult conversations thoughtfully for anyone seeking help in this area.
Relationships are foundational. They can help us feel known and supported, and they can also be where we feel most misunderstood, stuck or alone. The relationships we have with family, friends, colleagues and wider communities often affect one another in ways that are difficult to see when we are in the middle of them. You might be questioning why the same difficulty keeps arising with different people, finding it hard to speak up or set boundaries, or trying to understand a relationship that has changed. We can take time to explore what is happening between you and others, what you have come to expect from relationships, and what might become possible if those patterns shift.
