My Approach

Therapy with me, is not a one size fits all way of working. We will work together from day one to shape, explore and understand what brings you to therapy in a way that puts you at the centre of our work together. Therapy is a co-created journey, and we will work in partnership as we explore your inner and outer emotional worlds to shape and give voice to your experiences past and present.

About Me

Hello. I'm Alyx and you are welcome here. I am an attachment-based psychoanlytic psychotherapist based in London. I trained as a therapist, having worked in social care settings supporting vulnerable elders, and in Higher Education supporting academic staff and students. I believe that therapy can offer a safe space, in which you can explore your life experiences perhaps for the first time, and explore how they may have impacted on you today and how you experience and relate to others in the world.

Special Interests

Like all UKCP registered psychotherapists and psychotherapeutic counsellors I can work with a wide range of issues, but here are some areas in which I have a special interest or additional experience.

Bereavement can take many forms, not just the death of a loved one, friend, colleague. Diagnosis of dementias, terminal illness and life limiting conditions, can bring up issues of bereavement and grief even though the person may still be here, and supporting individuals to explore their feelings whilst the person is still here can reduce isolation, understand what is happening emotionally and give a person a safe space outside the family, community to talk about this form of grief. Post bereavement can also bring up complex feelings, once the formalities that come with a death are completed (eg funerals), that can require suppport. We often do not go there to bereavement and grief, but it is something we need to break the silence on, and why I am interested in supporting people in this area.
I have experience in working with parentified adults, who come to therapy not knowing who they are outside the role they have been inhabiting in families often for years, and exploring or even thinking about who they are today, as adults can be scary and exciting at the same time. Other identity issues I am interested include explorations around gender, sexuality and especially coming out later in life support.
Professional issues having worked in Higher Education, and also private practice is an area of support that I can offer. This type of area is well suited to short term therapy, as it can be focused on a particular issue. This is not coaching, rather an exploration of any difficulties you are experiencing, ways of relating to colleagues for example and what may be occuring for you. You may feel stuck at work, not sure or have confidence or performance anxiety that are all worthy of support, and a space in which to explore.
