Privately or in schools, I offer 1:1 Educational and Child/Adolescent Psychotherapy (UKCP). Using a creative, sensory and playful approach, the client is invited to explore their interests, feelings and emotions. This allows space to hold the child in mind and think with curiosity about barriers to learning and communication.
To help parents, I have an additional two years study as a Systemic Practitioner with the Tavistock (recognised by the Association of Family Therapy - AFT) which invites conversations and stories around individual/group identity, culture and belonging. As a Systemic Practitioner I offer “Talk-Time” for siblings, parents and/or families. “Talk-Time” sessions involve systemic work based around relationship challenges. It invites conversation around identity, connection, communication, loss and/or learning. Talk-Time is helpful for siblings, or individual children and parent(s), or other family members, who may be looking for an opportunity to understand or improve their experience of being together.
Creative therapy sessions and Outdoor walk-n-talk Therapy aligned with (COOPTUK) are also available and may be of interest for mums-to-be, teens and parents with younger children. With a wealth of educational and child development experience (in London and overseas) I advocate for children, young people and families.
After enquiries are received there is a free consultation. We will discuss: next steps - our mutual availability for a longer discussion, initial assessments and block sessions. Term time and school holiday work may be booked covering a range of locations.
As an Educational and Child/Adolescent Psychotherapist, I bring 30+ years of specialist teaching and school leadership experience to my work with young people and families. I have worked in CAMHS NHS and trained at the Tavistock as a Systemic Practitioner (PGDip). I support children, parents, families and upon request, school staff. This ranges from whole school INSET training in trauma/SEMH to individual child and family work.
At aheadforlearning, I provide 1:1 sessions (including International and bilingual Spanish/English settings) specialising in communication, Neurodiversity and emotional overwhelm. The sessions are tailored to support children and young people struggling with life events, transitions, loss and change. My clients are often held back by emotional distress, anxiety, trauma and behavioural dysregulation.
After teaching Business English overseas I qualified as a specialist teacher (BEd. Hons). I went on to achieve a BSc in Psychology and MSc in Language and Communication (SLCN) at UCL which equipped me to understand the presentation and assessments for children’s cognitive learning difficulties and hindrances to their receptive/expressive speech, phonics, reading, literacy/numeracy (dyslexia/dyscalculia) and autism. With a focus on metaphor and the internal world of the client I work with a range of young people. This has included: LAC, SGOs, EBSA, CAPVA, those living with selective mutism, attachment, trauma, the grief and frustration of loss, and those who seek coping strategies to process a range of possible diagnoses.
