My Approach

Life often involves challenges and we all experience difficulties at some time in our lives. Whether this is within the family, as couples, individuals or even between friends, it can be overwhelming - feeling lost and unsure of what to say or do. I am here to help.

My approach is warm, collaborative and guided by your goals. I draw from a range of therapeutic approaches tailoring them to meet the needs of each individual, couple or family.

My style is grounded in curiosity, empathy and a genuine belief in the power of people's stories and relationships. Sessions move at your pace, offering a safe and reflective space to explore experiences, to find new ways of thinking and putting you at the heart of every conversation.

About Me

I am a qualified Systemic Family Psychotherapist and Family Mediator with over 15 years' experience supporting individuals, couples and families as they navigate life. None of us exist in isolation. We are influenced by our relationships, histories and the environments around us. Every individual, every couple, every family has a story. Some stories are voiced aloud like the ones we tell about who we are. While other stories remain unspoken. Sometimes what looks like conflict or when we feel stuck or overwhelmed is really a story that has been sitting quietly unheard.

I work creatively and collaboratively to make room for those unheard stories. Helping people hear them, understand and make sense of them. Taking the first step towards therapy can feel daunting. I aim to make that step as comfortable as possible, going at your pace.

I offer in-person sessions in Ayr as well as online appointments. If you wish to find out more or arrange an initial appointment, please contact me: mail@familymediationayrshire.co.uk

Special Interests

Like all UKCP registered psychotherapists and psychotherapeutic counsellors I can work with a wide range of issues, but here are some areas in which I have a special interest or additional experience.

Feeling anxious is a perfectly natural reaction to some situations and it is something everyone experiences at times. Anxiety can help us to focus or take extra care when needed, but if it gets too much or goes on for a while, it can affect our daily life. There are ways to deal with anxiety that really work and I can help.
I know that when a relationship is struggling you may feel a sense of loss and sadness for what might have been. Sometimes there is fear and anger as the future looks uncertain. It can be overwhelming to think about what to do. I can get 'stuck' conversations moving by helping you focus on what is working and what could be better.
Family means something different to everyone from relatives to friends. Who is part of your family is up to you, ‘family is what you make it’. Sometimes our connections with others can come under strain and it might be hard to get along. Life events like separation or divorce or blended families can cause stress or there may be loss due to bereavement or physical illness or disability.
Mental health issues can have a wide range of causes and I can help you explore this.
While change is part of life, what is important is how we manage it in a way that supports and helps one another. I know that when difficulties escalate people often stop hearing what others are saying. My therapeutic approach can help you work things out together, building on your family strengths and confidence to manage any future challenges.
