My approach is psychodynamic. I am curious about people’s minds and inner worlds and I understand that past experiences and relationships can have significant effects on people’s current lives. I take a view that there may be underlying causes for distress, pain and suffering.
I work collaboratively with my clients to explore their difficulties. This exploration can take time and only happens in the context of a trusting therapeutic relationship. My warm, empathic and gentle approach helps clients to feel at ease and creates safety in the work.
I offer an initial face to face consultation session. This allows us to meet and discuss how psychotherapy works. It is also an opportunity for me to understand your concerns and difficulties and for us to decide together if this approach will be helpful for you. Once psychotherapy commences I offer weekly face to face sessions.
My psychotherapy room has been designed to be welcoming, calm and emotionally containing. It has been specifically created for my private practice and has a discreet side entrance.
I offer short, medium, and long-term psychotherapy. This enables you to have a space for as long as it remains beneficial.
I am trained as both psychiatrist and a psychotherapist.
I have over 20 years experience working in the NHS, where I am employed as a Consultant Psychiatrist in Medical Psychotherapy and in Medical Education.
In my private practice I specialise in individual psychodynamic psychotherapy.
Additionally I have training and experience in delivering supervision and in providing Dynamic Interpersonal Therapy (DIT), Mentalisation Based Treatment (MBT), Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT) and Narrative Therapy.
My practice is located in Bristol.
There is plenty of free roadside parking nearby. The area is well connected by the main bus routes from the city centre.
Like all UKCP registered psychotherapists and psychotherapeutic counsellors I can work with a wide range of issues, but here are some areas in which I have a special interest or additional experience.
