Talking Therapies: Stress – How do I switch off this summer?

Is stress killing you?

We all know too much stress is bad for our mind, but it can also have a negative impact on our body.

We wanted to find out how to de-stress in a world where work continues to invades our daily lives…even on a well-deserved holiday.

In this episode we spoke to UKCP psychotherapist and stress expert Susan Smith, someone who has first-hand experience of the real impact stress can have in our lives.

She says: ‘Plan, Plan, Plan, if you fail to plan you plan to fail. Make sure you have your ducks in a row, that you have planned who is taking care of your work while your away, if you have to leave that to somebody. Because there’s no point in being on holiday stressing about the double workload you’re going to come back to.’

In her article for Psychologies magazine, our CEO Professor Sarah Niblock considers…She writes: ‘Perhaps financial pressures or other responsibilities make it hard for you to take a proper holiday. Choose a staycation instead, but think about how you can change your routine. Turn your router off so you get some real peace in your home.’
