UKCP consults on changes to strengthen protection and speed up resolution of complaints

UKCP is proposing changes to our Complaints and Conduct Process. These changes are designed to protect the public more effectively and resolve straightforward complaints more quickly. We are opening this consultation to hear your views.

The first change  would introduce a new Consensual Disposal process, allowing straightforward complaints to be resolved more quickly where a registrant accepts the facts of a complaint and acknowledges a breach of our standards. This would reduce delay and unnecessary stress for everyone involved, while complex or disputed cases would continue to go through a full hearing.

The second change would strengthen the sanctions for sexual misconduct, so that removal from the register becomes the most likely outcome, rather than suspension. This reflects the seriousness with which UKCP treats breaches of trust in the therapeutic relationship.

The proposed changes affect three UKCP documents: the Complaints and Conduct Process, the Publication of Decisions Policy and the Indicative Sanctions Guidance.

We want to hear the views of members and non-members, including registrants, organisational members and members of the public. The consultation page sets out the proposals in full, with links to the relevant documents and details of how to respond.

The consultation runs from 1 September 2026 to 30 October 2026. Once it closes, we will review all responses before confirming next steps.
