Clearer registration rules for psychological professionals welcomed by UKCP

UKCP welcomes new NHS England guidance setting out clearer registration requirements for psychological professionals working in NHS-commissioned services. 

Jon Levett, UKCP chief executive officer, said: 

‘We welcome NHS England guidance recognising the importance of appropriately trained, qualified and accountable psychotherapists and psychotherapeutic counsellors. 

‘The recognition of UKCP and other Professional Standards Authority (PSA) accredited registers will provide greater clarity for employers and greater confidence for people accessing NHS services. 

‘But people seeking psychotherapy outside the NHS deserve appropriate protection too. That’s why UKCP continues to make the case for a regulatory system which puts public protection first, protects professional standards and titles and recognises the breadth of high-quality psychotherapy practice.’ 

UKCP will continue working with NHS England, the government and partner organisations across the psychological professions, to improve public protection and access to high-quality psychotherapy.
