UKCP Conference brought together established and emerging voices in psychotherapy to deliver thought-provoking talks, workshops and discussions. Across two in-person days, we explored how we can foster meaningful human connection amid increasing isolation. 

Threads across the divide: weaving connections in a fragmented world delved into the paradoxes of division and unity and considered how the therapeutic relationship can help bridge the gaps that fragment us.

The evolving psychotherapy profession: practice, ethos and community

held on 23 may 2026

UKCP’s annual research conference where cutting-edge research met practical and effective clinical applications. Led by UKCP research officer Paige Wilson, this event showcased emerging research and was a great opportunity to engage in a rich exploration of how practice, ethos and community intersect.   

Dr. Panagiota Tragantzopoulou who hosted a workshop on ‘The power of supervision: building resilience and reducing burnout in psychotherapy’ while Rebecca Rooney held a workshop titled ‘Hidden in plain sight: camouflaging among autistic women in higher education’.

Connecting with self, others and the environment in a complex world

Held on 7 June 2025

UKCP’s annual research conference where cutting-edge research met practical and effective clinical applications. Led by UKCP policy and research manager Ellen Dunn, this event showcased emerging research and explored how psychotherapy and connection intersect. Dr Linda Finlay held a featured talk on refugees' experience of loneliness and we heard from a range of other speakers on psychotherapy-focused topics including nature, creativity, labelling and working outdoors.

Psychotherapy in a changing world 

Held on the 22 and 23 November 2024

Day one of our UKCP conference, exclusively held for UKCP members, featured:

  • a general meeting
  • the launch of the new three-year strategy
  • a meet the CEO and Board of Trustees session. 

Day two of our conference featured insightful sessions led by renowned experts, including Professor Mick Cooper, Tree Staunton, Graham Music, Alison O'Connor, Professor Divine Charura, Julie Stone, and Dr. Aaron Balick. Additionally, a thought-provoking panel comprised of members from our EDI-BIIDE committee explored critical issues shaping the future of our profession.

UKCP research conference 2024

Held on 7 June 2024

This two-day event featured paper presentations from research-active members, as well as workshops from eminent psychotherapy researchers on a variety of topics, including how psychodynamic therapists respond to what their clients say about sex, the impact of the prison environment on relational dynamics between therapists and clients, using ecotherapy in an indoor setting, sexual inclusivity in therapy, and so much more.  

 


 

Exploring the interrelation between ethics, regulation and training

This webinar is part of a series of sessions held by UKCP to gather insights from our members on shaping our new three-year strategy. In this recording we explore:

  • how should UKCP address emerging ethical challenges and dilemmas in counselling and psychotherapy practice?
  • how can UKCP ensure ethical standards are effectively integrated into regulatory processes and training to promote quality practice?
  • how can ethical guidance reflect learning from the real life cases dealt with under UKCP’s complaints and conduct process?
  • what is UKCP’s role in supporting members faced with ethical challenges?
