Gen AI in learning, teaching and assessment

Generative AI is changing the way we learn, teach and assess, and many of you have told us you'd welcome more support in getting to grips with it. Our next HIPC college meeting is a chance to do just that.

About the event

Professor Mirjam Hauck, professor of critical digital pedagogies and academic co-lead for AI in learning, teaching and assessment at The Open University, will lead an interactive session on developing AI literacy. It's designed for members who teach in psychotherapy and psychotherapeutic counselling training, or would like to. Much of what we'll explore will also be relevant to your practice and to the way you use Gen AI in everyday life.

We'll look at what's new and what you need to know now. This will include the different types of AI products and the terminology around them, how to assess their reliability, and how AI can support authentic assessment and motivate students. We'll also cover writing prompts and holding conversations with AI, and the ethics of using it responsibly. Throughout, we'll take a critical view, looking at AI through the lens of equality, diversity, inclusion and accessibility, identifying bias and considering its environmental impact.

You'll work with anonymised examples of psychotherapy coursework assessment from higher education, both during the presentation and in small breakout groups. You'll also leave with materials to take away. Before the session, we'll share a reading resource and a short anonymous survey asking where you are with AI and what your hopes and fears are. It's also a chance to connect with colleagues who are working through the same questions.
