Forging inclusive cultures in training and supervision

The Equity, Diversity and Inclusion – Belonging, Intersectionality, Inclusion, Diversity and Equity (EDI-BIIDE) Committee are organising an event this autumn to build a community of committed trainers and supervisors. The committee's aim is to share best practice and build a community of trainers and supervisors, showcasing the work that is ongoing in inclusion and anti-oppression.

date: FRIDAY, 23 OCTOBER
time: 10AM-3PM
location: ONLINE

Call for contributors

The event will be shaped by our EDI-BIIDE Committee and your submissions – as such, we're seeking people to contribute to the event. Please contact our senior EDI officer at lorna.reeve@ukcp.org.uk if you would like to contribute or learn more about what's involved.

We welcome contributions from trainers, supervisors, trainees, supervisees or anyone who has a story to tell about inclusive working. Although we won't be able to take all suggestions forward, we look forward to discussing ideas to contribute to inclusive practice with you.

Some of the topics we may cover could include:

  • including intersectionality in training and supervision
  • facilitating discussions around identity - steering and preventing harm
  • reasonable adjustments
  • supervising people with different identities to your own
  • overcoming structural barriers
  • effectively responding to conflict, concerns or complaints.

We'll share details on attending the event in our membership comms and across our socials in due course, so keep an eye out for further info.

About the EDI-BIIDE Committee's work

EDI-BIIDE work at UKCP is led by our EDI-BIIDE Committee, which is made up of members from across the organisation and overseen by our Board of Trustees. The committee's work currently focuses on the steps identified in our EDI-BIIDE action plan (which runs alongside the UKCP strategy).

Our upcoming event, Forging inclusive cultures in training and supervision, is an important point on the EDI-BIIDE action plan. Some key work that the committee is currently focusing on includes supporting the UKCP Bursary, potential development of of a mentoring programme for trainees, development of an equality impact assessment framework and collaborating with other organisations.
