College of Family, Couple and Systemic Psychotherapy (CFCSP) 2026 AGM and CPD session

The College of Family, Couple and Systemic Psychotherapy (CFCSP) is pleased to announce the details of their 2026 AGM and a CPD opportunity for all.

AGM for CFCSP members 

Between 10am-11.20am, CFCSP will hold an AGM, which is open to all its members.

Kate Waters, chair of CFCSP, alongside other members of the college, will share updates from the college and discuss how members can get involved in CFCSP's work. 

During the AGM, we will discuss: 

• the CFCSP elections
• the finances and financial health of CFCSP
• membership of the CFCSP committee, their priorities and the work they have undertaken over the past 12 months
• the CFCSP 12-month strategy, initiatives and plan.

CPD session for all UKCP members and non-members 

From 11.30am-1pm, CFCSP invites all UKCP members and non-members to a CPD session with Hugh Palmer who will provide an engaging exploration of fourfold vision, systemic thinking, power, ecology and relational ethics in contemporary practice. 

Drawing on Gregory Bateson's cybernetic epistemology and William Blake's poetic vision, this presentation explores a fourfold vision of systemic thinking that attends to power, ecology and the ethics of relationships. Hugh is particularly interested in what systemic thinking has to offer in a time of ecological and political crisis, and in forms of practice and writing that focus more on lived experience than on technique. 

The presentation will invite participants to consider the implications of fourfold vision for systemic practice, therapeutic relationships and how we understand power, connection and responsibility in contemporary contexts. This event is organised by UKCP’s CFCSP. 

Event objectives 

By attending this session, participants will: 

• be introduced to fourfold vision as a way of understanding power, ecology and therapeutic relationships, and explore what may be lost when systemic practice remains within a single-vision, dualistic framework
• explore power in systemic and family life as relational and embedded rather than sovereign, considering the clinical implications of understanding asymmetry as something that is stored within relationships rather than possessed by individuals
• reflect on what these ideas ask of both systemic practice and practitioners, particularly in the context of contemporary ecological and political challenges. 

Speaker info

Hugh Palmer is a systemic psychotherapist, supervisor and educator. He retired at the end of July 2026 as systemic lead for the ClinPsyD programme at the University of Hull and continues in private practice and supervision.

He is co-editor of Murmurations: journal of transformative systemic practice and The ecosystemic return: an anthology for now (Everything is Connected Press, 2024). He is also the author of The connected human: selected papers (Everything is Connected Press, 2026) and is currently completing a further book, The entangled human, on second-order systemic practice, sacred uncertainty and relational ethics. 

Who should attend? 

Please note that the AGM from 10am-11.20am is for CFCSP members only. The CPD presentation with Hugh Palmer is open to all, including those who are not members of UKCP or CFCSP. This event will be of interest to systemic and family psychotherapy trainees, systemic practitioners and systemic and family psychotherapists/psychotherapeutic counsellors.
