Coalition for Inclusion and Anti-Oppressive Practice

UKCP is a member of the Coalition for Inclusion and Anti-Oppressive Practice (CIAOP), a collaborative group that connects organisations across the sector with a shared mission to improve diversity within the counselling, psychotherapy and psychological therapy professions. The Coalition focuses on promoting inclusive and anti-oppressive professional training, as part of a greater vision to address further barriers to inclusive practice.

As part of its work, the Coalition commissioned Race is complicated: a toolkit for psychological therapies training, to increase diversity in the counselling, psychotherapy and psychology professions by challenging the whole sector to be more inclusive. The interactive PDF has practical tools and approaches to use in the appropriate therapeutic settings. This toolkit provides guidance on how to set up anti-racism working groups and staff support groups, addresses language, encourages trainees to explore their own conceptions, and much more. It will be promoted throughout organisations involved in the delivery of courses in psychological therapies, through to organisations providing course accreditations and membership bodies.
