Each edition of the New Psychotherapist looks at a particular theme within psychotherapy or a topic with a psychotherapeutic angle. It offers members opportunities to share best practice, share developments likely to impact on their practice and encourage spirited debates between members or discuss views on professional practice and topical issues.

The New Psychotherapist is published three times a year – spring, summer and autumn.

This issue of the New Psychotherapist looks at diversity, division and the healing role psychotherapists can play in easing division and embracing difference. We look at organisations providing therapy for clients from diverse backgrounds and spotlight Dr Dwight Turner who talks about the importance of taking an intersectional approach to understanding difference.

We also interview Jeff Smith MP, Vice-chair of the All Party Parliamentary Group on Mental Health, who tells us why he thinks an equalities champion is needed, and how he thinks access to talking therapies can be improved.
