My Approach

My approach is integrative, which draws on psychodynamic, humanistic and existential theory. I work in a trauma-informed way and with the whole person and personal embodiment. I approach my work in holistic, curious and human way.

About Me

I am an integrative relational psychotherapist and counsellor, with experience of working in a variety of settings, including at the national charity 'Mind', at a university counselling service and in private practice. I currently work in the NHS alongside my private practice.

I offer both open-ended and time-limited therapy to individual adults and am currently offering online only.

I work relationally and aim to offer a warm and down to earth therapeutic space for you to bring what you need. As an integrative therapist I draw on a range of approaches in seeking to understand you and your experiences and work to facilitate movement from where you are, to the place you want to be.

Therapy can be tough and I am keenly aware of the depth of process that can emerge, as the most painful experiences are worked through. I aim to be alongside you in therapy and treat you with kindness and respect.

Special Interests

Like all UKCP registered psychotherapists and psychotherapeutic counsellors I can work with a wide range of issues, but here are some areas in which I have a special interest or additional experience.

I have an interest in working with individuals who have experienced living within a difficult family system, whether that is processing the legacy of this, working through continuing difficulties or both. Families are mini-societies, the first society we know and societies can become very dysfunctional. I enjoy working with individuals who have lived in, or are currently living in complex family systems and helping them to find a way to work through the impact - often trauma - of these experiences and navigate a way forwards, which is healthier and less entangled.
I am interested in how we become who we are and how the process of 'becoming', can be interrupted by early experiences, including by emotionally absent, overbearing, rejecting or self-involved parenting. When this has happened, we can end up wondering 'who we are', what we really think, or what we really feel. We can wonder if we really are extroverts or introverts. We can wonder why we are working in banking, when there is a sense of an inner artist or creative. We can wonder about our gender or sexuality. We can wonder about our lived experiences and whether they really were as we recall them. We can question our identity, our sense of self and our place in the world. We can become estranged from ourselves; a very painful place to reside. Issues with identity do not only stem from our upbringing with our primary care givers - sometimes a punitive schooling experience, work environment, relationship or even group membership, can leave us questioning who we really are. I enjoy working with individuals to help facilitate them in rediscovering their authentic selves and in doing so - and rebuilding the relationship with the self - find their strength. From this place, individuals can begin to discover more embodied, fulfilling and meaningful ways of living and being.
All life is about relationships - the difficulties of past relationships, current relationships, or even lack of relationships and contact. We 'become' 'in relation to' another or others and therefore, difficulties with self, also come back to relationship with others. The therapeutic relationship itself provides a setting in which to grapple with difficulties in relationships - not only family relationships - but friendship, romantic relationships, work relationships and more. As a relational psychotherapist, I enjoy this aspect of the work.
