My Approach

What to expect in your first session?
Our first session together aims to provide you with a warm welcome into the therapy space that we will share together. We will exchange basic introductions and you will have the opportunity to ask questions and discuss your expectations of therapy and start to explore your therapy goals in a supportive environment. This will be at a pace led by you, for you.
I will discuss with you the ethical basis and safeguarding framework that supports our work together.
I am able to offer face to face therapy, outdoor therapy and also via Zoom or telephone.

About Me

The ebbs and flows of life can often leave us with difficult paths to take and can feel like a long road that is challenging to navigate. Finding the right therapist can help you to make sense of your journey, providing a supportive relationship, when you are at your most vulnerable.
I became a therapist and I am very passionate about working with clients to increase understanding and manage symptoms of anxiety and depression. In addition, finding ways to take care of yourself, increase your self-esteem and in doing so build personal resilience enabling you to live your best life and the best version of you.
Initial introductions and the space for you to tell your story are an opportunity for you to begin to experience the essence of the therapeutic relationship and how therapy can help you to explore your thoughts, feelings and behaviours in a safe and supportive environment.

My theoretical Psychotherapeutic frame and emphasis is both Integrative therapy and Transactional Analysis. I find using different models of therapy offers options that best fit the needs of the client. I work with both long and short-term contracts.

Training, qualifications & experience:

Special Interests

Like all UKCP registered psychotherapists and psychotherapeutic counsellors I can work with a wide range of issues, but here are some areas in which I have a special interest or additional experience.

We live in a society that is increasingly busy, at times stressful and anxiety inducing. Our brains often perceive modern day stresses as though we are in danger and so respond to the threat, leading to symptoms of anxiety, overwhelm and stress. In therapy we can look at these and work to manage, reduce and relieve these symptoms.
I have a background as a Registered General Nurse and during my nursing career, I spent many years working within Oncology and caring for patients and their families coming to terms with a cancer diagnosis and managing loss and grief. This experience helped me to develop my understanding of how impactful a physical diagnosis is and the psychological scars that are left behind, but unseen. Many people are touched by ill health and this impacts not only physically but can also affect us emotionally and impact negatively on our mental health. With my knowledge and experiences, I feel that I am able to offer psychological support and understanding of managing these emotions and a space to explore these together.
Depression can make us feel very lonely and isolated in the world, I feel that helping clients to understand depression it is essential to provide a supportive environment and encourage self-help to generate and sustain good feelings rather than waiting ‘to feel better’ by chance. It is important to recognise that changing habits takes time, and for individuals to be kind and self-compassionate during this process. The key in therapy is to not be overwhelmed or disheartened and to keep up practices in self-care and nurturing, and exploring whatever that may be to suit you as an individual. Within the therapy room I use an empathic, compassionate and understanding approach towards my clients, taking a calm and non-judgemental approach in understanding and helping you to understand the thoughts, feelings and behaviours you are experiencing.
Many people are touched by ill health and this impacts not only physically but can also affect us emotionally and impact negatively on our mental health. With my knowledge and experiences, I feel that I am able to offer psychological support and understanding of managing these emotions and a space to explore these together. For part of my nursing career, I worked as a Lead Dementia Nurse. The impact of this disease on the brain is devastating for both the patient and loved ones around them. This illness is often greatly misunderstood, as is the impact of the diagnosis upon the individual and their loved ones.
We spend a lot of time in work and so I believe that it is essential to find our work life balance and for work to be enjoyable and rewarding. I can help you to find this balance and a space for you to discuss and explore any difficulties or responses that you have experienced in your work place in a safe space.
