I am a Registered Integrative Psychotherapist (UKCP) and a Senior Practitioner Member at the BPS's Register of Psychologists Specialising in Psychotherapy (ROPSIP). I am also Chartered Psychologist (BPS) and a Registered Counselling Psychologist (HCPC). I have been working psychotherapeutically with clients since 1999 and I have experience in working with adults and adolescents who present a range of emotional and psychological difficulties including, but not limited to, depression, anxiety, low self-esteem, self-harm, loss & bereavement, trauma, relationship difficulties, and work related stress.
Apart from my private practice, I have worked in a variety of public and private mental health settings such as: Community Mental Health Team (NHS); Psychotherapy Department (NHS); Eating Disorders Clinic (NHS); Recurrent Depression Clinic (NHS); Department of Children & Adolescents (INPSY – Greece). Since 2006, I have also been involved in teaching, training, and supervising counselling psychologists, psychotherapists and counsellors.
My view on psychological distress
I consider that emotional and psychological distress is part of the human condition. That is, any of us can experience emotional and psychological difficulties in the process of coping with life’s challenges and stressors. However, although we may all experience similar psychological difficulties (e.g., depression, anxiety, and stress), the meaning that these have for us, how they affect us, how they develop and how they can be better managed varies greatly for each individual.
Psychological distress, in all its varied forms (e.g., depression, anxiety, panic attacks, phobias, etc), is a kind of warning sign that alerts us to existing conflicts within us. By gaining a better understanding of the underlying meaning behind our distress, we can be in a better position to make informed choices about the changes we want to make in our lives so that we can better manage our distress and feel more content and fulfilled with our lives.
What can you expect if we work together
I aim to offer to all my psychotherapy clients a non-judgmental and safe therapeutic environment where they can feel at ease, talk openly and reflect on their experiences and on what distresses them. We will be working collaboratively to help you examine how your past experiences, your current life circumstances and your future aspirations shape your perceptions, assumptions and expectations about yourself and your relationships with others. Through our therapeutic work, you will have an opportunity to gain a better understanding of why you are experiencing distress at this particular point in your life and to reflect on what you can do to better manage it, or overcome it.
Clinical experience and research indicate that no single therapeutic approach can meet the multifaceted needs of each individual client. As a counselling psychologist and psychotherapist I adopt a pluralistic approach to my therapeutic practice. I have been trained in and have experience of a number of psychotherapeutic approaches (e.g., psychodynamic, humanistic and cognitive-behavioural), which I use to inform my clinical practice and tailor it in a way that will meet the individual needs of my clients.
Your first session
Our initial consultation will provide you the opportunity to express your current concerns and difficulties for which you are considering therapy. I will address any questions that you may have and together we will decide whether therapy is right for you. If we decide to work together, we will also agree on the duration and focus of our work.
Fees per 50 minute session
Initial Consultation: £60
Individual Psychotherapy: £90
I am registered with BUPA & AXA Insurance.
I provide therapy and supervision in English and in Greek.
