Everyone faces challenges and difficult situations in life and it is during those times that it helps to have someone to talk to.
I provide individual and couples therapy in a safe, confidential space where you can talk about your difficulties and concerns. Understanding what matters to you is my first task as a therapist. In seeking a closer understanding of what matters to you, psychotherapy provides insights into why you make the choices you do and can help you understand what new possibilities are open to you. My style is warm and non-judgemental, attentive to your experiences, emotions and thoughts. It is through clarifying anxious and problematic aspects of your life that you to develop a greater understanding of yourself and realise and reconnect with the emotional intelligence you already possess. Working together we will establish a greater recognition of your resources and strengths empowering you to meet the challenges of your life and to make better and safer choices.
I work with anxiety, depression, anger, grief, self-esteem and relationship issues. I have a wide range of experience, but my speciality is in the continuum of addiction, compulsivity or the various forms of striving, perfection, reward or control that manifest in people’s lives. Clients often struggle with compulsive behaviour and are perplexed by their inability to reduce it or stop. I have worked in the NHS and I have specialist training in addictive and compulsive disorders.
In my work with couples I look at reoccurring problems, explore communication styles and emotional and relational organisation. As an experienced couples therapist, I can support you in changing a dynamic or defusing a volatile or difficult situation.
I offer evening and daytime appointments. Sessions last 50 minutes, meeting usually once a week preferably at a regular time. The rhythm of regular weekly meetings, creates a stable arena for change
Working effectively and ethically is important to me. I adhere to the UKCP code of ethics and my work is regularly supervised. I keep up to date with developments in the field, regularly attending courses, workshops and other professional development activities.
