I work in a person-centred way, which means you set the agenda and how fast you want to go. This can change from week to week, and that's ok! I aim to listen carefully to what you are talking about, to notice the impact on you of things in your life, and accompany you as you work out what you could change and how. I also incorporate something called 'focusing' into how I work if that might be useful - this is a way of learning to listen to yourself and what you really feel rather than what people tell you that you feel!
As a supervisor and facilitator I offer a non-judgemental space to look at work issues, either individually or in small groups. I see this work as peer-to-peer, offering encouragement and information where that helps, sharing experience and helping you steer through the professional challenges of supporting clients of many kinds.
I am based in North Nottinghamshire, but also see clients online, and I combine seeing therapy clients with supervising other therapists and offering consultative support to lawyers and others whose work has an emotional impact - those jobs where you witness distressing stories or have to be resilient to pressure. My first training was in law, but I always enjoyed the people most, and qualified from Sherwood Psychotherapy Training Institute in 2020. I see a variety of clients of all ages, genders, ethnicities and issues, and try to be genuine, understanding and 'on your side' whatever you are facing. I have recently completed a UKCP approved supervision course, as well as awaiting accreditation as a Focusing Oriented Therapist after an additional two year's training.
I am happy to work with whatever issues you bring – I’m not fond of diagnoses or labels except the ones you find helpful, but you might come to me because you are anxious, depressed, over-using drink or drugs for example, or you want to explore a particular issue that has been bothering you with someone who won't judge you or tell you what to do.
Your initial session is free of charge, to give you chance to see if you would like to work with me. Most clients then arrange a time each week for an hourly session.
There is more information on my website www.clipstonebeachcounselling.com, and please get in touch if you would like to discuss what you are looking for. Email me at serentiamail@proton.me and I can answer any questions you might have.
Like all UKCP registered psychotherapists and psychotherapeutic counsellors I can work with a wide range of issues, but here are some areas in which I have a special interest or additional experience.
