I am an experienced Integrative Child Psychotherapist and after 20 years of private practice and working in schools I now only
offer clinical supervision to child counsellors and child psychotherapists.
I specialised in working with younger children (between 5 and 12/13 years) on a range of issues such as transition, friendships, low self esteem, high functioning autism, bullying, worries and anxiety, bereavement, anger issues, divorce, emotional deprivation, neglect or abuse, etc.
I consider child psychotherapy to be a form of social- emotional help and support for struggling children and their parents/caretakers.
As an integrative child psychotherapist I am trained to work with the arts and metaphors. I used talking therapy techniques as well as puppets, drawing, painting, stories, music, sand tray and/or role play. Images and metaphors often are an easier and safer way for children to communicate about difficult feelings and challenging situations.
When appropriate, I had parent-child sessions next to my individual sessions with the child but I always planned regular feedback meetings with the parent-care takers to reflect on how they can support their child the best.
I am UKCP registered and fully insured for my clinical work with children.
Like all UKCP registered psychotherapists and psychotherapeutic counsellors I can work with a wide range of issues, but here are some areas in which I have a special interest or additional experience.
