My Approach

For me it is not about "one-size-fits-all": My extensive training in a number of different models allows me to adapt to what you might be needing at a given point. It is the aim of our work together that you can unfold into the person you were meant to be, not gouverned by a self-critical voice, or critical voices from the outside. Not to be trapped in Anxiety or Depression. The aim is to heal old childhood wound and to deal with challenges in the here-and-now better, so you can really enjoy your life and relationships -at least a fair amount of the time. Even good relationships have their ups and downs, that is OK. It is about knowing that we can get through the low points in life and really open up to what we really love.

About Me

Hello,
So you are embarking on a great journey of self-discovery, looking for a therapist.
What can I tell you about me?
Well, to start with the basics, I am a fully accredited psychotherapist, counsellor and supervisor of therapists.
I have been working in private practice since 2004, supporting people on their path to a happier, richer life. You might be motivated by emotional pain or difficulties in relationships to seek out change. That is the most important first step.
It is important to me to create a warm, open and non-judgmental atmoshphere in which you can feel safe, heard and supported. No issue is too small or too big. Finding a therapist is a big decision, this is why I offer a free 25 min online-taster so that you can get to know me a little bit, you can see how I work -and I can get a sense of what you might be needing. I absolutely love my work - and I hope that shows. Feel free to book a free taster!

What else?
Well, I have a lot of specialist traings (including the trauma treatment EMDR, dreams, body-work and a specialism in ADHD), but if you want to know more about that, please go to my website. Before I started my private practice, I worked in a private psychiatric hospital for 6 years, which gave me a good grounding and a certain humbleness. In my 20s I worked as an "AIDS buddy", accompanying two gay men through the last year of their lives, this was very meaningful work and it stays with me to this day.

Special Interests

Like all UKCP registered psychotherapists and psychotherapeutic counsellors I can work with a wide range of issues, but here are some areas in which I have a special interest or additional experience.

Difficulties with relationships are probably one of the most common reasons to reach out to a therapist. Often people have had difficulties during childhood, with parents or being bullied at school. These experiences might leave deep scars that make it difficult to feel at ease in relationships as an adult. What are your thoughts about the relationships in your life? What have you found difficult or painful? Do you sometimes feel lonely or misunderstood? Or is it difficult to say "No." to people at times? Depending on your answers to these questions we might embark on some communications traing together, give you new skills, or we might go back in to the past to see what life was really like for you. Telling one's story and being listened to with warmth and empathy can feel a bit exposing to us at first...and yet it is very, very freeing and healing to explore all the feelings, sadness, anger, fear, disappointment - and love. Sometimes we see transgenerational trauma in families. This might be caused by wars, displacement, violence either in the family and/or the community. Then we might see unhealthy behavioural patterns (for example violence, outburst or coldness and withdrawl of love and warmth) filter down the generations. Here it is really important to look at the bigger picture, gain understanding and break the toxic patterns. This is deep, slow and soulful work...and so worthwhile in the end, for you and for your loved ones.
