PSYCHOTHERAPY FOR CHILDREN AND GROWN-UPS
"Finding our light in the darkness"
Emotions flood our bodies at the click of a button.
The truth shatters into a million little pieces.
It’s getting harder to catch a breath.
With each twist and turn, it feels like the world is making us mad.
But we are stronger than we realise.
We can breathe in deep.
We can can hold our ground…
We can find our light in the darkness.
Hi, I’m Louis
My name is Louis with a silent ‘s’ although some of my dearest friends persist in calling me Louissss.
I work with children, and the child inside us all, the one that wants to be loved, the one that wants to cry, the one that knows what it wants, the one that really does dance like no-one’s watching, the one that spends timeless hours looking at bugs under a piece of bark, the one that keeps getting back up no matter how many times they fall down.
I help people find a light in the darkness, especially in grief, in the shadow, in the things that are unseen, unheard, unspoken. I see death as our greatest teacher, and avoidance of it our biggest mistake. I made an audio course all about death and life here:https://louisweinstock.com/shop/. it will help you become more fully alive in your everyday existence. I run Magic Power of Grief circles at festivals, and in other spaces and places.
I believe the body is deeply intelligent, and our ‘symptoms’ are just fragments of our soul seeking wholeness. D.H. Lawrence said once: “My great religion is a belief in the blood, the flesh, as being wiser than the intellect. We can go wrong in our minds. But what our blood feels and believes and says, is always true.”
I love using design, collaboration and creativity to solve big, meaningful problems. One way I do this is by helping to run a charity – Apart of Me – that helps kids transform their grief into compassion. (https://apartofme.app)
Making a home for experience in words is my favourite spiritual craft. I’m currently writing a book about How The World Is Making Our Children Mad And What To Do About It. I helped my wife to create a beautiful book on sacred rituals for everyday life- its called The Inner Beauty Bible.
The first step is a 50-minute consultation by phone, Skype, or in person, after which you can decide if I am able to help you. If we decide to work together, then I will recommend a minimum number of sessions, at which point we will review where you are at.
If you are looking specifically for child or family work, then we will start with the same 50-minute consultation. If we then decide to work together, we will agree on how the sessions will be arranged. Sometimes it is appropriate for me to work with a child alone. Sometimes it is more appropriate for us to do joint work with child, parents, and possibly siblings. Again, we will have a minimum number of sessions, at which point we will review where you are at.
During the initial period, I will be recommending some personally tailored exercises or changes for you. I have regularly found that some significant shifts are likely during this initial period, as long as you are willing to implement the changes in your life.
Your peace of mind:
You may also be wanting to know whether this guy is legit or not. Well, the best way to be sure is to check me out on the two professional registers I am on. As I am on two professional registers, this means I have had to submit to rigorous screening regarding my professional suitability. Here are the two registers I am on: 1) the United Kingdom Council for Psychotherapists (UKCP - reg number - 2011164697); 2) Health and Care Professionals Council (HPC - reg number - SW37941).
I am also fully insured with Balens.
I have spent the last 20 years helping bring peace and fundamental empowerment to people who have for very different reasons been struggling with life. In that time I have worked as a drugs and alcohol counsellor, a meditation teacher, a life-coach, and a psychotherapist working with children, families, and grown-ups.
I am experienced at working with a range of difficulties. I have worked successfully with addictions, depression, anxiety disorders, complex trauma, issues around loss and bereavement, gender and sexuality issues, eating disorders, anger management, work related stress, spirituality, relationship issues.
I have worked across the spectrum of need, from preventative mental health work in schools and organisations, to specialist work in acute in-patient NHS units.
I have a Master of Arts (Distinction) in Integrative Transpersonal Child, Adolescent, and Family Psychotherapy. This means I have a toolbox of different approaches which allows me to meet my clients where they are at, rather than fitting a square peg into a round-hole. The approaches I draw from include psychoanalytic psychotherapy, Jungian Archetypal work, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Brief Solution-Focused Therapy, Family Therapy, Multi-Systemic Therapy, Mindfulness-based approaches, Sandplay Therapy, Motivational Interviewing, Focusing.
