My Approach

Your therapy will be an opportunity for you to engage in a very different kind of conversation, collaboratively thinking about what you bring to each session to shed light on the roots of what you are struggling with. Somewhere you can simply be and come to know more about yourself, without a list of goals and objectives. We can think about whatever is on your mind and explore the challenges you are facing in a way that enables a deeper reflection and clearer understanding of your thoughts and feelings, opening up new possibilities and perspectives.

I appreciate how difficult it can be to openly express your thoughts and feelings to another person and I offer a safe, reflective and confidential space with this in mind.

My approach is psychodynamic, which recognises that many of the issues that trouble you in the present can have roots in the past, and there are very often aspects of yourself that are difficult to make sense of. From early life, our experiences influence how we relate to others, how we feel about ourselves and how we manage difficult emotions. Sometimes, if past difficulties are left unresolved or outside of awareness, they can cause issues in the present. You may find yourself in unsatisfying relationships, struggling with persistent distress or repeating familiar patterns, even though you wish for something different.

Psychodynamic therapy offers a safe, confidential space to understand personal struggles in this way, so that unresolved past experiences interfere less with your ability to lead a fulfilling life in the here and now.

About Me

I believe that by considering starting therapy, you have made an important reflection that professional support could be helpful for you. It can be daunting to reach out but it is a positive next step. Once you have contacted me, I will be in touch as soon as I can. We would first arrange to meet for an initial consultation. This will give you a chance to get a sense of my way of working and to discuss whether working together is a good next step. At its best, therapy is a collaborative process and so it is important to come for an initial consultation to help decide whether I am the right therapist for you before we begin to work together.

My training, experience and qualifications:

I undertook a rigorous five-year psychotherapy training at one of the UK’s leading academic and clinical institutions, WPF Therapy, where I offered short-term and long-term therapy for three years. I hold a Masters Degree and a clinical qualification in Psychodynamic Theory and Practice from the University of Roehampton and WPF Therapy, as well as a Certificate in Counselling from WPF Therapy. I also have experience collaborating on courses about mental health and working in various therapeutic support roles within charities.

I am registered as a fully qualified psychotherapist with the UKCP (UK Council for Psychotherapy) membership organisation, which means that I follow their ethical codes and professional standards including confidentiality, professional indemnity insurance, regular clinical supervision and on-going professional development.
