My Approach

What is Psychoanalysis?

You may have asked yourself:

What is it that I really want?
Why do I keep repeating unhealthy behaviours?
Why do I make unwise life choices?

Psychoanalysis is a form of talking cure invented by Sigmund Freud. Jacques Lacan, a French psychoanalyst developed the psychoanalytic theory further, incorporating elements from other fields of knowledge, such as Linguistics and Topology.

Psychoanalysis is not a quick fix. It takes time and commitment to explore one's suffering. I will ask you about your life, your childhood memories, and your dreams. I will listen. Sessions are of variable length.

About Me

My name is Juana Cavaliere Silva. I am a psychoanalyst working in a Lacanian orientation with 15 years of experience. I have a practice in London Bridge, Shoreditch and in South East London. I offer sessions in English and in Portuguese for adults, young adults as well as couples.
My background is in Clinical Psychology. In 2005 I finished my Clinical Psychology studies at PUC University in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. I joined the psychoanalytical training at Centre of Freudian Analysis and Research (CFAR) in 2006 which lead to my UKCP registration. Alongside the training I have worked in a number of specialised services in London for patients experiencing Psychosis, Personality Disorders, Substance Misuse, and Eating Disorders. I have also worked with expectant mothers and new mothers who experience Pre/Post Natal Depression and Pre/Post Natal Psychosis.

I work with

  • Families

Special Interests

Like all UKCP registered psychotherapists and psychotherapeutic counsellors I can work with a wide range of issues, but here are some areas in which I have a special interest or additional experience.

You know it is bad for you but you can't stop. Perhaps the addiction functions well, it is a coping strategy, it satisfies something, but the price to pay is too high. Through analysis there is a possibility of the addiction shifting.
Anxiety is a human condition. We can however learn how to manage it better via in depth exploration of our history.
How functional can a family be? How has your family impacted you? These are important topics in psychoanalysis.
Sexuality has a fundamental part to play in our lives. This is also an area of interest in psychoanalysis.
It is important to process trauma, there is no other way around it than to speak, verbalise and articulate our traumas. Sometimes we have repressed our traumas and the work of analysis is to bring it back into consciousness.
