I believe it is the relationship between myself and a child or young person that is central to the therapeutic process. I strongly believe that if a young person’s thoughts and feelings are accepted as neither right nor wrong but simply a reflection of their current state-of-mind, this will help them to communicate more freely and, in turn, increase their own reflective capacity.
Children and young people can sometimes struggle to communicate through words alone, and , depending on the needs and wishes of the child or young person, it is here that I introduce the use of creative activities, and play to help with therapeutic exploration and support.
My previous positions in schools and in care settings has resulted in a wealth of experience of working with children and adolescents from a multitude of backgrounds, presenting with issues such as anxiety, low mood, trauma, bereavement, fragmented and complex family relationships, self-harm, bullying and friendship issues and the impact of social media among many.
I am a psychotherapeutic counsellor specifically trained to work with children and young people. Alongside my training and experience as a therapist since 2016 - in schools, local authorities, a local counselling service, and in private practice - I have over 20-years’ experience working with children and adolescents with a range of social, emotional and mental health needs in children’s social care.
In addition to direct work with children and young people, I provide consultations for parents and carers who would like a space to think about their child, and how to support them.
My private practice days are Tuesdays and Thursdays at my consulting room in Haywards Heath. I currently have limited availability for ongoing /regular appointments. I have additional availability for ad hoc consultations.
