I am a qualified Gestalt Psychotherapist and Systemic Psychotherapist. My approach is collaborative and dialogic. I hope to create a safe space where issues that are difficult to talk about can be discussed openly, with support and no judgement. Validating individual experiences and exploring personal meaning are central elements to the way in which I work, as well as, in family or couple work, facilitating understanding of each other's minds and the intentions, thoughts, wishes, desires and beliefs that underly our behaviours. I am influenced by Attachment Theory and use these ideas lightly in my work when I think they will be useful. I also have training in CBT and implement techniques from this modality, particularly when anxiety and depression are issues, in my work.
I have been a qualified Gestalt Psychotherapist since 2000. Prior to this I qualified as a Social Worker in 1995. I spent 4 years working in CAMHS before moving to work for an independent fostering agency for 10 years. I have written a book '', which was Team Parenting for Children in Foster Care: A Model for Integrated Therapeutic Care by Jessica Kingsley in 2013.
I have been working privately since 2010 and offer individual, couples or family therapy as well as clinical supervision. I qualified as an Integrative Supervisor in 2012.
I also currently work as a Systemic Psychotherapist in a Specialist Eating Disorder Hospital; I work with both adults and their partners or parents and adolescents and their parents.
Like all UKCP registered psychotherapists and psychotherapeutic counsellors I can work with a wide range of issues, but here are some areas in which I have a special interest or additional experience.
