Special Interests

Like all UKCP registered psychotherapists and psychotherapeutic counsellors I can work with a wide range of issues, but here are some areas in which I have a special interest or additional experience.

I have worked in addiction within the private sector and the NHS (30 years) I have also helped partners and families involved in this field. Not forgetting adult children of substance misusers
Anxiety can be the result of many internal and external conflicts often the experiences of past traumas and subsequent fears about the future. You can begin to feel overwhelmed , however through therapy there is the opportunity to explore this and gain further and better understanding , finding words where there was confusion. Having the ability to think rather than feel panic. This is not a quick process, anxiety builds up over time, therefore it is necessary to unravel some of that which ,got so tightly bound inside of you
Many types of bereavement exist from job loss to the loss of a person. Over the years I have experienced my own losses . Grief is eventually something that happens to all of us. It is part of our lives and so is the pain that comes from having lost someone or a loved one/job or way of life.
I have a full understanding of mental health problems, the treatment and medications used , working in the nhs I have worked with individuals suffering from an array of disorders. My approach acknowledges the illness but I hope to help individuals to get a better understanding of their problems and how to manage their medications and come to terms with their difficulties.I am able to work with those that have also experienced psychosis
Sexual abuse takes on many forms. I offer an open non judgemental space for individuals to explore and to open up their experiences/ thoughts.
