My Approach

This modality offers a way of deepening into self-acceptance so that we are able to face life’s inevitable ebbs and flows with openness and inter-connectivity. We don’t have to live as if we are overwhelmed or shut down but can recognise such inner responses as our defended nature, with curiosity and understanding. Incrementally we can face our painful experiences without automatic resistance which helps us to connect to ourselves and others with greater congruence.

How we respond to life can lead to connecting to the nature of consciousness or to further contraction and pain. Connecting to our consciousness is becoming centred and aware of our innate health and capacity. When we forget about our inner spaciousness, we lose sense of our deeper connection to Self. If we can come into a contemplative practice, where we continue to let go of what binds us to pain, then we can maintain our centre of consciousness and feel into a more aligned sense of who we are.

We can learn to find a way to be open and receptive to the reality of life that is coming into us. It’s not always pleasant, but we can learn to be comfortable with reality as a whole. We can honour and respect reality and expand our being nature so that what has happened can fit inside of us; so that we become a greater container of reality. We can let go of our sense of separate self, of a world of dualities, like a rain drop falling into the ocean of non-dual reality.

A neuroscientific approach to understanding the relationship between our thoughts, experiences, emotions and behaviour can also help us to resolve inner conflict, especially around trauma. The polyvagal theory, for example, can help us to see how we can automatically become hyper-aroused into fight or flight or freeze, and how emotionally putting on the brakes can help us to self-regulate more effectively. A mindfulness based psychotherapy can help us to feel more grounded, without going into extreme 'all or nothing' reactions. We can choose how we respond to our experiences and emotions in a more helpful way that promotes our wellbeing.

About Me

I offer Humanistic Counselling and Mindfulness Based Core Process Psychotherapy. This integrates both western ways of looking at personality pattern formations as well as Buddhist philosophies around our deeper connection to our sense of Self.

Depth counselling and psychotherapy offers a compassionate way of holding a client so that their distress can be seen and met.
If we can turn towards our inner difficulty instead of away from it, we can start to process our pain and create more inner spaciousness in our lives. This can help us to be with and move through difficulty. We become more aware of how we protect ourselves through old patterning. This often uncomfortable perception naturally leads to insight and allows us to replace defence mechanisms with ways of being that work for us in our current life stage.

This modality believes in our innate health, and that this can be obscured by various layers of conditioning. Therapy can help us to come into deeper contact with ourselves and others, as we free ourselves from such obscurations.I work with the emotional inner life, and help a client to come into a deeper relationship with their emotions, sensations, and felt sense of themselves. In welcoming all emotions, including fear, sadness, despair, desperation, shame and anger, we can become more congruent in the way that we contain our material.

This modality sees the therapeutic relationship as an integral aspect of coming into relationship with our deeper Self and inherent health underlying all obscurations to our health.
