I have over 20 years experience as a therapist and I am still as interested and attentive with every person I meet. I focus on improving people's confidence and happiness with their place in the world. I have a particular interest in communication and I work to help people improve their intimate relationships, as well as friendships and relationships with colleagues and extended family.
I often work with people who have experienced trauma or distressing events that still hurt, using EMDR, a form of therapy that heals past trauma more quickly than traditional therapy.
I also work with parents to guide them through the minefield of parenting, using the strategies I have taught in parenting groups I've run for the past 15 years. I can help with the ordinary problems of parenting and also with the more specific challenges of parenting children with special needs. I work with children from secondary school age, having had substantial experience of counselling teenagers.
I believe everyone can benefit from talking with a confidential, trustworthy and experienced therapist, as long as the fit is right. In a counselling environment, solutions to problems and discontent become clearer, past hurts and current pain are eased, and a confident future becomes achievable.
My therapeutic approach is warm and open, sometimes deep and sometimes practical. Therapy also needs some humour and a lightness of touch!
