Welcome to my psychotherapy and counselling private practice based in Walton on Thames / Weybridge and central London.
As a qualified and experienced psychotherapist and counsellor, I provide a relaxed and comfortable space where you can talk in confidence about issues that may be troubling you. My experience includes working with people with depression, anxiety, work-related stress, relationship issues, bereavement, eating disorders, self-harm, autism, abuse, personality disorder, and post-traumatic stress disorder.
I see clients at my two practices in Walton on Thames / Weybridge which are conveniently located for parking or public transport.
How do you work?
I work with a psychodynamic frame as a counsellor and psychotherapist, and I draw on the therapeutic approach of looking at the past as a way understanding the here and now and understanding patterns of behaviour. However, I will always tailor my approach to your individual needs. My aim as a psychotherapist is to create a safe space that you can work from to investigate and understand thoughts and feelings which may seem overwhelming and frightening.
From my years of experience of seeing clients, I believe that it takes courage to sit with another human being and explore your most private feelings and thoughts. By talking through the challenges you are facing, the work we do together can help you gain a new understanding of yourself. And by connecting you to a more conscious sense of yourself, it can help you to make more informed choice and live a more satisfying and balanced life.
I am an experience psychotherapist and counsellor working with many different issues including personality disorder, abuse, anxiety, depression, relationship issues, adoption and autism. I have a specific interest is in working with adoption issues and I did my masters research dissertation on adoption and loss.
I am an accredited member of UKCP and UPCA and a registered member of BACP (MBACP). I have full professional indemnity insurance and am regularly supervised. I follow my accrediting body the United Kingdom Council for Psychotherapist (UKCP) Code of Ethics.
I studied for four years at the University of Oxford gaining a Masters in Psychodynamic practice (Distinction). Post qualification I have trained in Metallisation Based Treatment (MBT), at the world renowned Anna Freud Centre in London. MBT is an acknowledge way of working with personality disorder, as well as an effective treatment for depression and anxiety. I also trained at Anna Freud in Dynamic Interpersonal Therapy (DIT), a way of working short term over 16 sessions psychodynamically. It is in the NICE guidelines as a treatment for moderate depression and anxiety. Research shows it is significantly more effective than CBT one-year post treatment.
I trained with the Tavistock Institute (Relationships) in London in couple and relationships therapy. I am also a registered adoption therapists having trained with Barnardo's Link.
My first post graduate degree was from the University of Westminster in Journalism, an area I worked in for fifteen years in print and as a television producer. It was working as a journalist that I became interested in helping people understand themselves, their history and actions better.
