About Me

Hello, I am Alex, a fully qualified Gestalt Psychotherapist and Coach, with over 10 years of experience in private practice and NHS work. I offer a creative, authentic and personable approach to counselling and psychotherapy for individuals, couples and families in Central and East London, or online via Zoom.

Challenging life transitions, difficulties in work, love or family relationship issues, anxiety, panic attacks or depression - these are some of the experiences people have come to me with and found our work helpful.
Whether it is personal growth or a specific difficulty you want to work on, we can explore the options and arrangement that will work for you in our initial consultation.

About this process

It is a big step to start counselling or therapy - often it’s a difficult decision to even come to a first session. Using the support of a therapist does not mean you are ill or dysfunctional, on the contrary, it means you have a healthy sense of what you might need.

Any place is a good place to start from, and your questions, doubts or reservations are very welcome in my practice.

The next step for you:

I would like to invite you to book an exploratory session without further commitment, in which we can discuss your reasons for coming, what you are looking for and get to know each other a little. This will help both of us decide if and how we want to work together and for you to decide whether therapy in general, and with me in particular, is the right choice for you at this point in your life. If not, I am happy to guide you in other directions or send you some references.

Please contact me via email to arrange an initial consultation.

UPDATE: I have moved my practice online and will only hold sessions via Zoom video calls.

About my approach and how I work

The therapy style I offer will be slightly different with each person; you will get me, responding to you, rather than a fixed school of thought or technique. In our work we will also pay attention to what happens in the room between us as well as make links to the larger circumstances of your life including your history, when useful.

My main training background is in Gestalt psychotherapy, which is a holistic and relational approach focusing on exploring here-and-now experiences, with influences from Eastern philosophy and psychodynamic theory. The assumption being that by gaining new awareness, you will feel more able to change, act, finish what needs to be finished, accept or move on.

I offer therapy, coaching and counselling in English or German/Ich biete Therapie und Coaching auch auf Deutsch an.

I offer relational and Gestalt supervision for therapists, coaches, HR professionals and anyone working in 1-2-1 settings with people.

Special Interests

Like all UKCP registered psychotherapists and psychotherapeutic counsellors I can work with a wide range of issues, but here are some areas in which I have a special interest or additional experience.

I have worked for several years as a team leader at The Awareness Centre with the NHS IAPT, where I helped a team of over 25 therapists in their placements through to qualification. I have several years of experience working as a coach for startup founders and people who want to make a business out of their passion, and have co-led groups of 40-50 people through career change and life change programmes at Escape the City as well as run creative workshops for children and adults myself. I have successfully set up my own group practice The London Practice, and have informally helped newly qualified therapists in finding their style as a practitioner and their feet in starting out on their own.
I offer relational and Gestalt supervision for therapists, coaches, HR professionals and anyone working in 1-2-1 settings with people. As I am currently still in the process of training as a UKCP accredited supervisor, I offer my supervision sessions at a 50% reduced rate to my regular therapy fee, which is £35 per supervision session, until I am fully accredited. We could work together on topics like: how to grow your practice and finding your ‘niche’ adapting safely and ethically to various contexts (agencies, short-term work, businesses) practical issues such as marketing, rooms, insurance, data protection your feelings about money, charging fees, and making the transition from unpaid work self-confidence and 'not feeling ready' how to incorporate creative experiments into your existing approach explore counter-transference and difficult feelings that arise in your work identifying your strengths, vulnerabilities and growing edges managing risk and boosting your self-support developing your own style - incorporating new approaches or letting go of old ones
