Founded in 1983, Northern Guild Psychotherapy and Counselling is an accredited professional training organisation based in Newcastle upon Tyne and Stockton-on-Tees, Teesside. Northern Guild exists to promote mental wellbeing and the education and training of psychotherapists and counsellors.
We deliver quality, well-structured and in-depth training, which is both academic and vocational. Facilitated by experienced professionals, our training aims to develop individuals of ability and integrity who work in a manner consistent with our core values of honesty, mutual respect, quality, teamwork, commitment, trust and respect.
Our qualifications are validated by UKCP, BACP, and also incorporate an MSc programme in partnership with Newman University. They involve an element of practice-based learning which takes place in a professional placement setting. Our training enables practitioners to work with children and young adults or adults, and leads to UKCP registration as either a psychotherapist or psychotherapeutic counsellor.
Our training is humanistic, integrative and creative, and draws on the relational psychodynamic model of transactional analysis. We utilise a range of humanistic models and human development while drawing upon neurobiology and trauma-informed therapeutic approaches. All aspects of our training take account of the importance of developing professional, ethical practice, and engagement with equality and diversity. Courses are run by a diverse team of qualified and knowledgeable tutors and supervisors who are experience practitioners with a range of interests and specialisms which they bring to the training.
