We want to hear from you – Consultation on a new draft Code of Ethics for UKCP

Publication date: June 7, 2018

The UKCP Ethics Committee is producing a new Code of Ethics. Our aim was to begin afresh to ensure there is clarity about the values underpinning the Code, and coherence in its structure and content.

The new Code is designed to create a clear, decisive ethos and character for psychotherapy and its practitioners by highlighting the central principles of professional ethics for UKCP members and registrants.

About this consultation
This consultation process begins today (Friday, 1 June 2018) and ends on 7 September 2018. It is intended for all stakeholders, including students, trainees, UKCP individual and organisational members, committees, faculties and colleges, as well as professional bodies within the mental health sector and the general public.

Please take a look at the consultation web page which will have a survey, documents, video and other information relating to the consultation. Should you have any questions, please email

Free consultation events
During the consultation period we are holding events. Both are free but booking is essential.

30 June – Cardiff
This is a Members’ Forum meeting, during which there will be a presentation on the draft Code. The Members’ Forum is a debating chamber where any member may have their voice heard by the people within UKCP who decide on the strategy of our organisation. Any UKCP member may attend Forum meetings but only elected/nominated Members’ Forum members have a vote.

7 July – London
This full day event is being held during the consultation period to enable members to get a clear understanding of, and gain familiarity with, the proposed Code of Ethics.

The survey for the consultation of the new draft Code of Ethics will close on Friday 7 September 2018.
