Stakeholder Consultation for the revised UKCP Standards of Education and Training for Child Psychotherapeutic Counselling

UKCP’s Education, Training, and Practice Committee (ETPC) has revised the UKCP Standards of Education and Training for Child Psychotherapeutic Counselling, which are now ready for consultation.

UKCP periodically reviews its generic Standards of Education and Training documents to ensure clarity about the minimum standards and requirements underpinning psychotherapeutic training for work with children, and coherence in its structure and content.

The revised UKCP Standards of Education and Training for Child Psychotherapeutic Counselling have been drafted, taking the existing documents as listed below as a starting point:

The above documents have been combined into one UKCP document, with the agreement that the current UKCP colleges to which these standards apply will adopt the UKCP version once approved (currently this is CCAP/CCYP, PCIPC, and UTC).

Change of this kind affects UKCP students and trainees, trainings and trainers, the general public who may be considering psychotherapeutic training, and the wider psychotherapeutic community.

This consultation process will begin on 9 July 2020 and end on 30 October 2020 and is intended for UKCP internal and external stakeholders, including UKCP membership (both student/trainee members and organisational members), committees, faculties and colleges, and the general public.

We seek representation of a broad spectrum of views from within and without the organisation, and we would encourage our members to help promote this consultation to any internal or external stakeholders that could be relevant.

We would be very grateful, if you are a Committee Chair or officer, if you would ensure that there is space during the consultation period to discuss the new draft code and formulate feedback with your committee colleagues.
