Your agreement with your therapist

When you agree to a course of therapy you are agreeing to a contract, with both sides making a commitment.  There is no standard length of treatment or set fee for a session, you agree these with your therapist. Things you should include in your agreement are:

  • how much you will pay per session
  • how often (how many times a week or month) you will see your therapist
  • how many sessions you expect to have in total
  • the minimum number of sessions  you are agreeing to (after which you can both review progress and agree how many more sessions you will have before the next review)
  • what fees you will pay if you miss or cancel an appointment
  • what you will do about fitting in sessions around holidays
  • whether they keep notes of your meetings and how they protect your confidentiality.
