Samples of work are also sent to External Advisors chosen for their experience in training. Supervisors report to the Training Committee on clinical work The Training Committee, in consultation with its External Advisors, designs the curriculum, decides on entry to the training and is responsible for the maintenance of academic and ethical standards.

 Theoretical orientation

THE TRAINING IN CONTEMPORARY PSYCHOANALYTIC PSYCHOTHERAPY The Training has a broad perspective and aims to keep abreast of current theoretical developments in the major schools of psychoanalytic thought while paying due attention to the founding figures and innovators of the past. The four year taught programme is designed to cover major theoretical issues and writers. It meets on five Saturdays a term. For three of the four years each term forms a free-standing unit with work groups, two seminars, and case-discussion groups focussed each Saturday on a specific theme or group of theorists. One of the seminars each term is devoted to trainees' presentation of their clinical work. Seminars are usually given by visiting analysts or psychotherapists well-known in their field. Because each of these terms is free-standing trainees can enter at the beginning of any term and in any year. The fourth year is devoted to a study of human development and contains an experience of infant observation. Because it is sequential entry is possible only at the beginning of the year, in September.
