ANALYTICAL PSYCHOLOGY - PSYCHOANALYTIC & PSYCHODYNAMIC SECTIONWest Midlands Institute of Psychotherapy - The Training in Jungian Analytical Psychotheraphy WMIP-JTC Contact Name: Sue Harford - Administrator Organisational History The Jungian Training in Analytical Psychotherapy was founded in 1990. It aims to provide an experience of learning from which it's graduates will qualify as competent and responsible practitioners of Jungian analytical psychotherapy. In support of this aim, the Training Committee supports and encourages the ongoing development of a lively, open-minded and well-informed culture of Jungian psychotherapy in the Midlands through the provision of an annual series of public lectures. Training Course Selection & Admission Applicants: -are expected to have established themselves soundly and creatively in a profession or craft. They will usually hold a degree or equivalent. -will usually have had some experience of working in a clinical setting. -should have been in individual psychotherapy, at least twice-weekly, for a substantial period before applying for the Course. This may have been in another psychoanalytical frame. -are required to submit written statements outlining their reasons for wanting to train, and of significant experiences in their lives, together with more formal details. -Potential trainees have two interviews with experienced practitioners, who are not members of the Training Committee. The interviewers are requested to consider the suitability of the applicant in accordance with the statement of our ethos and aims, and to make an explicit recommendation on the basis of their experience of the interview. The Training Committee is responsible for the final selection. Personal Therapy The trainee is required to be in three times weekly therapy, until qualification, with an Analytical Psychologist, or a Jungian Analytical Psychotherapist with a qualification from an organisation accredited by the Psychoanalytic and Psychodynamic Section of UKCP or by BCP. Clinical/Clients Trainees will be required to see, under supervision, one patient three times weekly over eighteen months, one patient twice weekly over eighteen months, and one patient once weekly over twelve months. Supervision Trainees are required to have individual, face-to-face supervision with a Jungian Analyst or a Jungian Analytical Psychotherapist on a weekly basis for each of the three training patients, and the experience of at least two supervisors during the training. Written Work Annual papers are required up to graduation. The papers need to demonstrate an integration of theory and personal insight, together with after the first year, clinical observation. Trainees also submit a paper focusing on their infant observation. Attendance In exceptional circumstances a trainee in good standing may request a Leave of Absence. If Leave of Absence is granted by the Training Committee, there must be provision for the trainee to continue in personal therapy during the period of leave. Training Course Assessments, standards, role of training committee The Training Committee makes a formal decision at the end of each year concerning whether or not each trainee has fulfilled the requirements of the Course. This decision is made on the following evidence:
Theoretical orientation The Training is a four-year course. The formal teaching, reading seminars and Public Lecture Programme take place on Saturdays usually from 10.00 a.m. - 3.20 p.m., in up to three one and one-half hour seminars. Usually during years two and three of the training the teaching will also include an Infant Observation Seminar, which takes place during the week. The Training comprises :
Accreditation, graduation, membership The Jungian Training in Analytical Psychotherapy is affiliated with the West Midlands Institute of Psychotherapy. Trainees who are not already members of WMIP are required to apply to WMIP for Student Membership. On successful completion of the training, graduates are recommended to WMIP for Associate Professional membership and for registration with UKCP. They may use the title Jungian Analytical Psychotherapist. Trainees are required to abide by the WMIP Codes of Ethics and Practice.
