Ethics - ethical principles and code of professional conductThis document defines minimum generic ethical principles which UKCP registered psychotherapists and psychotherapeutic counsellors commit to and maintain. UKCP statement on the 'reparative' therapy of members of sexual minoritiesUKCP does not consider homosexuality or bisexuality, or transsexual and transgendered states to be pathologies, mental disorders or indicative of developmental arrest. These are not symptoms to be treated by psychotherapists, in the sense of attempting to change or remove them. UKCP diversity and equalities statementUKCP promotes an active engagement with difference and therefore seeks to provide a framework for the professions of psychotherapy and psychotherapeutic counseling that allows competing and diverse ideas and perspectives on what it means to be human to be considered, respected and valued. UKCP statement on tortureUKCP condemns the use of physical and mental torture. UKCP's focus is on promoting professional standards and the well being of clients/patients, including survivors of torture, it would therefore be abhorrent for a member to be involved in any way with mistreatment of detainees in any circumstances. As part of our quality assurance processes UKCP undertakes annual random audits of individual members on the UKCP Register. |
