Transpersonal Special Interest Group

Transpersonal psychotherapy describes any form of counselling or psychotherapy which places emphasis on the transpersonal, the transcendent or spiritual aspects of the human experience.

Update: 18 January 2012

We held our first Transpersonal Special Interest Group Meeting on Sunday 20 November 2011 as guests of the Centre for Counselling and Psychotherapy Education in London W2. The meeting was entitled 'The Importance of the Transpersonal - An Inclusive Model of Psychotherapy' and the guest speakers for the morning were Dr Nigel Hamilton and Professor Andrew Samuels. These talks were followed by lively discussion groups afterwards. In the afternoon we had an open forum dedicated to how to take the Transpersonal Special Interest Group forward. This was chaired by Tom Warnecke and again there was an enthusiastic response. The day was well attended by over eighty people.

We are delighted to confirm that the response to this Special Interest Group has been of over 200 enquiries which suggests perhaps a long overlooked need within the UKCP. In the meantime we have formed a temporary steering group which will arrange two General meetings for 2012, one in May and one in November. This is simply intended to keep the momentum of the group going until a more formal arrangement of a steering group is reached.

We anticipate inviting a wider steering group to take over later in the year which represents a range of Member Organisations within the UKCP with an interest in the Transpersonal. Please contact us if you would be interested in joining:

We are also looking for other organisational members to host events for 2013. We look forward to hearing from you.

Our next scheduled event is for Sunday 20 May. For more information please click here
