My background is in psychodynamic psychotherapy, which is a form of analytical talking therapy based on the modern developments of the theories of Sigmund Freud. One of the features of psychoanalytic psychotherapy is for you to say whatever is going through your mind. This helps them become aware of meanings or patterns in your behaviour which may contribute to your difficulties.
The initial session is an opportunity for us to meet and decide whether we can work together. I usually briefly explain how I work and discuss confidentiality, as well as the statutory exceptions to it. We then start exploring what brings you to therapy. We also discuss the fee (normally £50 if you are coming to me privately) and the cancellation policy. Sessions are usually weekly, but this depends on many factors which will be discussed during the initial session.
I am a UKCP-accredited psychoanalytic psychotherapist trained with the Cambridge Society for Psychotherapy. I have been seeing clients privately since 2017. I have experience in a range of settings, notably as a counsellor for a charity and as a volunteer in mental health wards.
Issues brought to me include depression, anxiety, work-related stress, sexual orientation, body image, eating disorders, addiction, childhood sexual abuse, and physical abuse. I can work with people coming via Employee Assistance Programmes through VitalityHeatlh, Aviva, and AXA Health. I work with a wide range of people of all ages and backgrounds.
My consulting room is at the Cambridge Counselling Service, 20 Mercers Row, Cambridge CB5 8HY. There is parking and it is easily accessible by public transport. Online sessions are also available.
Like all UKCP registered psychotherapists and psychotherapeutic counsellors I can work with a wide range of issues, but here are some areas in which I have a special interest or additional experience.
