UKCP Research Committee

The objectives of the Research Committee are as follows:

  1. To foster and promote research within UKCP.
  2. To provide a central resource for UKCP to aid in the dissemination of information about research activities and resources.
  3. To encourage the development of: (a) practice based on research findings; (b) research which informs the practice of psychotherapy.
  4. To encourage participation in quality research.
  5. To develop and maintain links with other organisations involved in psychotherapy research.

The Committee feels that a major route to achieving its objectives is to engage clinicians who wish to take part in practice based research of the clinical process. As part of this process we are setting up Practitioner Research Networks (PRNs). In a series of workshops, in collaboration with the participants, we are exploring ideas for projects, and practical methods for gathering relevant clinical data. We intend to 'sign up' networks of clinicians to collaborate with the committee to develop the research ideas into at least two projects, one of which being formulated so that we can apply for funding.

The members of the Research Committee are:

Dr Sheila Butler

Mrs Tirril Harris

Dr Angela Cotter

Professor Del Loewenthal

Professor Peter Stratton (Chair)

Professor David Winter
