Organisational History

Re-Vision is an educational charity and non-profit limited company originally established in 1988 as a counselling and psychotherapy training centre with a transpersonal and integrative perspective based on the principles of Psychosynthesis. It is a training and accrediting member of UKCP and a member of the European Federation of Psychosynthesis Psychotherapists (EFPP). The organisational structure comprises a board of Trustee/Directors who devolve authority to a Management Executive Committee (MEC) responsible for conducting the business of the organisation. The Training Committee is responsible for the direction and policy of the counselling and psychotherapy training as well as making decisions about other training matters. The ReoVision Council includes representatives from the student and graduate bodies, training and administrative staff, and is the means for democratic representation to the MEC and Trustees.

Training Course Selection & Admission

Admission is by application and individual interview having attended the Transitions course - a seven-day introduction to the Integrative Psychosynthesis model. Applicants are considered on the basis of their academic and professional qualification, their previous training, experience within the helping professions, life experience and maturity, capacity for independent study, previous individual psychotherapy, group experience and readiness to face a demanding training. Application into the Post-Diploma part of the training (Stage IV) is also possible for those who have successfully completed training elsewhere, comparable to Stages I-III. An APL procedure to ensure equivalence and interview is needed for selection. Where there are gaps and discrepancies of background, candidates will be required to complete additional training before entry.

Training Course Requirements

Personal therapy Weekly sessions with a UKCP registered psychotherapist approved by the Training Committee are required throughout the training (min of 35 hrs/year). A clear boundary is maintained between training therapists and the training team.

Clinical/clients Clients are seen under supervision from the second year of training. Initially these are clients at a placement. Private clients are only seen after a license to practice has been agreed in Stage 3.

Supervision Group supervision is undertaken by the main training team and is included in the training fees. Supervision to clients hours are kept to 1:6. Reports from individual and group supervisors form a significant part of the assessment process.

Written work Stage 1 & 2 - Four papers of 2000 words
Stage 3 - Two papers of 2000, one of 4000, plus video feedback analysis and two case studies of 2/3000 and 5/6000 words
Stage 4 - Three papers of 3000,
Stage 5 - Two papers of 3000, case study 6/8000, dissertation 8/10,000 words

Attendance 90% attendance is required throughout all stages
Students may take a year out between Stages. Reapplication is necessary for those who wish to return after more than a year.

Training Course Assessments, standards, role of training committee

The emphasis at ReoVision is on a transparent and creative process of assessment, that works towards mutual agreement between students and trainers. Continuous self- and peer-assessment is monitored by Tutors.
Self- and peer-assessments are held at the middle and end of each Stage. These written self-assessments, including responses to trainer feedback, are ongoing formative assessment and, with trainer and supervisor feedback, provide the evidence for summative assessment, which takes place at the end of each Stage.
A guiding principle of the assessment of competence is a range of methods or opportunities for students to demonstrate their ability. These include written papers, case studies, video presentation, feedback from peers and trainers and supervisors, as well as self-assessment processes. Standards are maintained by using learning objectives and competencies appropriate to each Stage of the training. The Training Committee is responsible for final assessments and awards.

Theoretical orientation

Integrative Psychosynthesis uses the open attitude of Psychosynthesis as a basis from which to integrate innovative approaches to psychotherapy. Our approach is influenced by James Hillman - we see the experience of 'soul' as emerging from the experience of shadow and depth. The theory integrates Archetypal and Jungian ideas, while also drawing on methods and concepts within Gestalt, Psychodynamic, Developmental and Family Systems. The 'inside-out' learning style developed at ReoVision encourages a dynamic and interactive forum in which students are accepted as co-learners in a mutual educative process. The curriculum is divided into five year stages and includes:

  • Developmental Psychology: Birth and Mother, Neuroscience, Mother and Father, Gender, Adolescence and Authority, Relationship, Sexuality and Identity, Leaving Home, Individuality, Will and Fate.
  • The Therapeutic Role: Ethics, Boundaries, Context and Frame, Initial Meeting
  • Therapeutic Relationship: Contact and Dialogue, Empathy and Respect, Therapeutic Holding and Containment, Stages of an Alliance, Eros and Relationship
  • Transference and Countertransference: Non-defensiveness, the Synergetic Field, Creative Use of Countertransference
  • The Imagination: Imaginal Dialogues, Metaphor and Symbol, Visualisation, Storytelling and Dream work.
  • Psychopathology: Boundary Disturbance, Developmental theory and Object Relations, Depression, Borderline and Narcissistic Characteristics, Addiction, Eating Disorders, Spiritual Pathologies, Medical Settings
  • Archetypal and Developmental Perspectives: Individuation and Myth, Oedipal stories, Mythic Triangles
  • Subpersonalities and Internal Relations: Linking Part Selves with Complexes, Object Relations and Archetypes
  • Change Process and Maintaining Cycles: Theories of Change
  • Trauma: Childhood Abuse and Soul Wounding
  • Working with Shadow: Power and the Therapist's Shadow, Midlife Encounter

Post-Diploma Training for Graduates

One-year Couples Therapy Training: offers an innovative approach to couples work from a psychospiritual perspective.
